Hayes Warner brings her role in FX’s The Shards into her songwriting on “Seriously,” a new single written from the perspective of Debbie Schaffer, the character she plays in the psychological thriller. Released October 9 through Interscope Records, the track arrives ahead of The Shards Original Soundtrack, scheduled for October 16.
Warner co-wrote the song with Cal Shapiro, Leland and Sarah Hudson, with production by Zhone. Writing as Debbie connects Warner’s recording career with her first on-screen acting role, extending the character’s perspective beyond the series’ dialogue. Fans can listen to “Seriously” here.
According to the soundtrack announcement, the 16-track collection brings together original songs from Warner, Troye Sivan and Leland, alongside a score by Morgan Kibby and David Klotz. It collects music heard throughout the series, whose nine episodes are now streaming on Hulu.
Based on Bret Easton Ellis’ novel, The Shards follows privileged high school seniors at an elite Los Angeles prep school during the 1980s. Their relationships unfold amid jealousy, obsession and the threat of a serial killer. Warner stars alongside Kaia Gerber, Igby Rigney, Homer Gere and Graham Campbell.
Born and raised in New York City and now based in Los Angeles, Warner came to the series with a pop catalog that includes “Predator” and “Breadcrumbs,” as well as live appearances at Lollapalooza. With “Seriously,” listeners hear her contribute to the same fictional world she inhabits on screen, ahead of the full soundtrack’s planned arrival on October 16.
